The Australian Embassy and Permanent Mission to the United Nations in
Vienna, has a vacancy for the following position: *Passport & Consular
Officer*
This is a full-time position providing consular and passport support and
services to Australian citizens in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Kosovo.
The position requires a person with very good knowledge of English, German
(oral and written) and preferably Hungarian. The successful applicant must
have strong client service skills and a demonstrated ability to be able to
obtain a good understanding of the Australian Government's passport and
consular procedures.
Salary and benefits will be in accordance with the Embassy's locally
engaged staff conditions of service package. Starting salary will be EUR
3,529 per month with an initial contract of one year, including a one-month
probationary period.

*Job Description*
1. Provide consular and passport services to Australian citizens, including
visiting prisons and hospitals. Respond to telephone and written enquiries
relating to consular and passport issues.
2. Process passport applications including emergency passports.
3. Assist with the management and staffing of the Embassy's switchboard and
reception counter.
4. Assist with the processing of Traveller Emergency Loans (TELs) as
directed by an Australian based officer.
5. Prepare consular statements and certificates in English, German and
other languages as requested by clients including assistance with other
notarial services such as witnessing signatures and authenticating
documents for use in the countries of accreditation.
6. Liaise with local authorities on behalf of the Embassy and consular
clients in countries of accreditation.
7. Prepare monthly and quarterly consular and passport reports including
statistics for the countries of accreditation.
8. Maintain and update the Consular Contingency Plans for the countries of
accreditation.
9. Prepare draft updates for travel advisories.
*Selection Criteria*
1. Experience with the delivery of client services and good interpersonal
skills. Previous passport and/or consular experience would be an advantage
2. Experience with communication and liaison with local authorities and
government departments, especially in the other countries of accreditation.
3. Ability to show initiative, work well in a team, respond to changing
priorities and meet tight deadlines.
4. Sound judgement and attention to details with a high level of discretion.

5. Well-developed written/oral English and German essential, with a working
knowledge of Hungarian an advantage.
6. Prior experience working in an international environment would be an
advantage.
