Szülei nemes emberek, de pogányok voltak. Leánygyermeküknek a Krisztina nevet adták nem pogány okoskodásuk alapján, hanem Isten elrendeléséből. Amikor 11 éves lett, rendkívüli szépséggel rendelkezett. Atyja meg akarta óvni minden káros befolyástól és azért külön lakrészben tartotta, a legjobb szolgálókat rendelve mellé. Körülvette leányát arany és ezüst bálványszobrokkal és megparancsolta, hogy mindennap mutasson be előttük áldozatot. Szépsége miatt sok kérője akadt, de az atya senkinek sem adta őt, hanem a pogány bálványok szolgálatára akarta rendelni. A leány, ablakán kinézve sokat gondolkozott az igaz Isten felől. Egy angyal, megjelenvén neki, kioktatta az igaz hitről, de a vértanúságról is. Krisztina buzgóságában összetörte az összes bálványszobrot. Pogány atyja Urbán ezért megkorbácsoltatta és börtönbe vetette. Állhatatosságát sem ő sem a bírói ítélet nem tudta megingatni a keresztény hitben.
