<i>Jézus a vízen jár. </i><br>
Miután Jézus jóllakatott ötezer embert, nyomban felszólította
tanítványait, hogy szálljanak a bárkába, és keljenek át a túlsó partra,
Betszaidába, amíg ő hazaküldi a tömeget.<br>
Miután elbúcsúzott tőlük, fölment egy hegyre, hogy imádkozzék. Közben
beesteledett, A bárka mélyen benn járt a tavon, ő pedig egyedül maradt a
parton. Amikor látta, mennyire küszködnek az evezéssel – ellenszelük
volt ugyanis –, az éjszaka negyedik őrváltása idején, a vízen járva
feléjük indult. El akarta kerülni őket. Amikor meglátták, hogy a vízen
jár, azt hitték, kísértet; elkezdtek kiabálni, mert mindnyájan látták
őt, és megrémültek.<br>
Ő azonban mindjárt odafordult hozzájuk, és így szólt: „Bátorság! Én
vagyok, ne <span style="color:rgb(39,78,19)">féljetek.</span>”
Aztán beszállt hozzájuk a bárkába, mire a szél elállt. Azok egészen
magukon kívül voltak a csodálkozástól, mert <span style="color:rgb(102,0,0)">nem</span> okultak a
kenyérszaporításból, és szívük még <span style="color:rgb(102,0,0)">érzéketlen </span>volt.<br>

sea.</b></span><br></span><br><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-weight:400;line-height:inherit;text-decoration:inherit;font-family:georgia,"times new roman";font-style:normal">What
we see here on vivid display is Jesus the miracle worker. Modern
thinkers tend to be put off by this dimension of the Gospel. Thomas
Jefferson took a razor to the Gospels, cutting out everything that
smacked of the supernatural. But he had to make an absolute mess of
Mark’s Gospel, which is positively chock-a-block with such things.<br></span><br><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-weight:400;line-height:inherit;text-decoration:inherit;font-family:georgia,"times new roman";font-style:normal">Jefferson’s
contemporary, the great modern philosopher David Hume, claimed that
since the laws of nature were set, miracles were, strictly speaking,
impossible. Following these Enlightenment-era prompts, an awful lot of
contemporary Christian theologians
and Bible commentators have tried to explain away Jesus’ miracles as
spiritual symbols.<br></span><br><span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);font-weight:400;line-height:inherit;text-decoration:inherit;font-family:georgia,"times new roman";font-style:normal">But
as N.T. Wright argues, it’s hard to explain the enormous popularity of
Jesus apart from this fascination with his wonder-working. More to it,
though <span style="background-color:rgb(255,242,204)"><b>God typically lets the universe run according to <span style="background-color:rgb(217,234,211)">its natural
rhythms and patterns</span>, what is to prevent God from shaping it and
influencing it occasionally in remarkable ways in order to signal his
