François egy olyan iskolában osztályfőnök, ahol szinte minden diák különféle
nemzetiségű és hátrányos helyzetű családból jött. A nehéz helyzet ellenére a
tanárokat a legjobb szándék, a kitartás és a tolerancia jellemzi. François
igyekszik ragaszkodni ahhoz, hogy a diákok tisztelettel beszéljenek egymással
és vele is, de nehéz helyzetbe keveri magát, amikor diákjai elkezdik feszegetni
a határokat.<o:p></o:p></p>

Szabad és kíváncsi filmkészítő ez a Laurent Cantet, alkotásából mintha teljesen
hiányozna az ambíció és a hatáskeltés iránti vágy. <i>Az osztályban</i>
egyszerűen csak jólesően és bátran igazi minden. A Marine tanár úr homlokán
feszültségtől lüktető értől kezdve, a tanórák sodró és eleven tempójáig, minden.
Így lehet átütően hiteles és izgalmas egy osztályteremben egymásnak feszülő
fiatal és lelkes tanár és a gondjaira bízott problémás, multikulturális
gimnazista csapat tanéve. A dokumentarista megvalósításban (csak a szituációk
adottak, és az amatőr szereplők ezekre improvizálnak) megleshetővé válik a
szenvedélyesen feltörő düh, a fontos csendek, az ösztönös feleselés, és
észrevétlenül megszületik a valódi konfliktus, az életszerű párbeszéd. A
2008-as Cannes-i Fesztivál Aranypálmával, illetve egy csomó más fesztivál
rangos díjaival kitüntetett alkotás.<o:p></o:p></p>
