The Hungarian Institute of International Affairs and the Danube Institute
has the pleasure to invite you to its upcoming roundtable discussion:

*Will the War End Soon? Prospects for Peace in Europe*

After nearly four years of grinding warfare, a breakthrough toward peace
may be on the horizon. The possibility of a historic meeting between Donald
Trump and Vladimir Putin in Budapest marks not only a pivotal diplomatic
moment for Hungary, but also a potential turning point in a conflict whose
end the world so urgently needs.

*Could this encounter pave the way toward a sustainable peace? What
elements could a viable peace agreement entail? How will this moment shape
the future of Western security architecture?*

The Danube Institute cordially invites you to a half-day programme
starring *Professor Jacques
Sapir, world-renowned French economist and one of France’s leading
specialists on Russia.*

*Russia and the West: From Interest to Misunderstanding*

In the first panel, Professor Sapir will examine how mutual interest
between Russia and the West gave way to lasting misunderstanding. A
long-time critic of what he calls the West’s “autistic” reading of
Russia, *Sapir
argues that European and American policymakers have misjudged the country’s
economic resilience and strategic logic.* He contends that sanctions and
isolation have produced counterproductive “boomerang effects,”
strengthening Russia’s autonomy while straining Western economies.

*Drawing on decades of research, Sapir will offer a nuanced, data-driven
perspective on how the current impasse emerged—and whether a path to
renewed dialogue remains possible. The presentation will be followed by a
discussion.*

Institute.
