Ever since the Iran–Israel conflict erupted on the 13th of June, this
now mid-scale war has raised lots of relevant questions and concerns for
all of us. *Is Israel prepared for any unexpected scenario of war? What was
the casus belli, and what is the war goal for the Jewish state? Can
Israel’s Palestinian and Iranian policies be defended?* Tamási Maráczi
asked all of these questions and received answers from no other than *Maya
Kadosh*, the Ambassador of Israel to Hungary.

Staying on the topic, we want to provide platform for authentic, sober and
constructive thoughts and opinion from both sides; that is why we were
happy to receive a *personal piece from Arian **Aghashahi*, a Visiting
Fellow at the Danube Institute, who -*given his Iranian heritage- felt it
was both natural and necessary to dedicate this first piece on the
Hungarian Conservative to the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict*. In moments
like this, when his family's homeland burns once again, he feels the ache
of exile not as history, but as present reality.

In spite of the fact that our daily life is now filled with wars and
conflict throughout the globe, there is also a lot of effort put into
strengthening relationships and cooperation amongst many nations. A great
example for deepening diplomatic ties and bilateral cooperation is
the series of *high-level meetings between Balázs Orbán, Political Director
of the Hungarian Prime Minister and US Vice President JD Vance at the White
House* this week. Joakim Scheffer tells how the two parties have *reaffirmed
their commitment to strengthening relations between the United States and
Hungary*. The political director concluded: ‘We look forward to continuing
our cooperation in pursuit of our nations’ prosperity.’

Speaking of a nation's prosperity, we believe it is something that cannot
be achieved without defending the country's sovereignty. This is why it is
crucially important to note that *Hungary’s Voks 2025 referendum on
Ukraine’s EU accession became one of the most successful public
consultations ever, with over 2.2 million votes*. State Secretary Balázs
Hidvéghi declared the results will shape Hungary’s stance in Brussels,
opposing what he calls a ‘reckless’ EU push for Ukraine’s membership. Read

Since we have mentioned Ukraine, we also need to observe why Hungarian
Prime Minister *Viktor Orbán described this year’s NATO summit as a ‘battle
won’ for member states advocating the strengthening of the Alliance over
prioritizing Ukraine*. Joakim Scheffer elaborates on how Orbán also
emphasized that the European Union must ease its fiscal rules to enable
member states to meet the new 5 per cent defence commitment by 2035.

I was thinking long and hard about how to conclude this week's newsletter,
and I believe I have found a way which will shoot us directly into Space.
As *Tibor Kapu* becomes first Hungarian in Space in 45 years after
successful launch, all of us Hungarians take pride in the astronaut's
crucial role in conducting key experiments and research at
the International Space Station. As Kapu was on his way to the Space
Station, he addressed all his fellow Hungarians in a moving and
beautiful way.

Research astronaut Tibor Kapu became the second Hungarian in space
following the successful launch of the Axiom-4 space mission on Wednesday.
Kapu will carry out 25 scientific experiments during the 14 days he and the
