What's behind the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics?



Hybrid in person and video talk by Tibor Rakovszky, Postdoctoral Scholar at Stanford University

The 2022 Nobel Prize was awarded to the pioneers who helped understand "entanglement", one of the most surprising features of modern physics. Einstein called it a "spooky action at a distance", and maintained that it cannot possibly be correct. 


It took many decades of physicists' efforts to turn the question from speculation to concrete testable experiment, and to prove that Einstein was wrong.


In this talk, Tibor will explain in simple terms the notion of entanglement, and describe the valiant efforts of physicists to measure it experimentally. This result is important both for fundamental science, and also for the emerging quantum technologies.









Our presenter, Tibor Rakovszky, a postdoctoral scholar in physics at Stanford University, has created this talk especially for those not familiar with quantum physics, or any physics.
