EVANGÉLIUM ELŐTTI VERS
*Szakítsatok minden törvényszegéssel, † mondja a mi Urunk, Istenünk, *
szerezzetek magatoknak új szívet és új lelket a bűnbánatban! *Vö. Ez 18,31

*† EVANGÉLIUM Szent Máté könyvéből Aki Isten törvényét tanítja, legyen
példakép a törvény megtartásában is! Egy alkalommal Jézus e szavakkal
fordult a néphez és tanítványaihoz; „Mózes tanítószékében az írástudók és a
farizeusok ülnek. Tegyetek meg és tartsatok meg ezért mindent, amit
mondanak nektek, de tetteikben ne kövessétek őket, mert tanítják ugyan, de
maguk nem teszik azt. Súlyos, sőt elviselhetetlen terheket kötöznek össze
és helyeznek az emberek vállára, de maguk egy ujjal sem hajlandók mozdítani
rajta. Amit tesznek, azért teszik, hogy lássák őket az emberek. Szélesre
szabják imaszíjukat, és köntösükön megnagyobbítják a bojtokat. Vendégségben
szeretnek a főhelyekre ülni, a zsinagógában pedig az első székekbe.
Elvárják, hogy az emberek köszönjenek nekik a főtereken, és hogy rabbinak,
azaz mesternek szólítsák őket. Ti ne hívassátok magatokat mesternek, mert
egy a ti Mesteretek, ti pedig mindnyájan testvérek vagytok. De atyának se
hívjatok senkit a földön, mert egy a ti Atyátok, a mennyei. És tanítónak se
hívassátok magatokat, hisz egy a ti tanítótok: Krisztus. Aki a legnagyobb
köztetek, az legyen a többi szolgája. Aki önmagát magasztalja, azt
megalázzák, és aki önmagát megalázza, azt felmagasztalják.” Ezek az
evangélium igéi. *

* Friends, our Gospel for today focuses on the pitfalls and ideals of
religious leadership. *This is a week when priests, ministers, and
preachers have to preach to themselves.

*Jesus turns his sharp eye and withering critique on the many ways that
religious leaders fall into corruption.It is hard to miss the practical
application of these texts to our troubled time, a period when clerical
corruption and misconduct has been vividly on display. Jesus makes a
distinction of capital importance. "The scribes and Pharisees have taken
their seat on the chair of Moses. Therefore, do and observe all things
whatsover they tell you." *The Lord reminds us that they do sit
legitimately in teaching offices and that their teaching should be,
accordingly, respected.



*In the fourth century, St. Augustine faced the challenge of the Donatists.
They claimed that only pure and morally upright priests could legitimately
dispense the sacraments. Augustine said, no, the personal evil of a
minister does not compromise the validity of what he does
sacramentally.This principle is of great significance. Augustine, in
imitation of Christ, says that there can be evil men who do and teach the
works of God.*

*Fast from hurting words and say kind words.*
*Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.*
*Fast from anger and be filled with patience.*
*Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.*
