This video is about Camp Kilmer, the army base in New Jersey that the
Hungarian Refugees were brought to after their escape for processing.
Surprisingly, it shows the very same Army ship –Capt. Eldridge – that we
came with but on its second voyage as we left Europe on Jan 19 and
arrived in Brooklyn on Jan 30th, 1957.

My sister was 2 years old and I older – totally confused and frightened
by all the commotion.  I distinctly remember the bunks on the ship and
the cafeteria where a friendly black sailor handed out hot chocolates
and chocolate candy to the children!  We thought we’ll become chocolate
people too!

It was at Camp Kilmer that my uncle, the minister came to collect us.
Our trip was sponsored by the World Churches Organization and the
Salvation Army.

ugyanaz amivel mi jöttünk csak a következö utján mert mi január 19-én
hagytuk el europát és január 30-én értünk amerikába.

Hugom kétéves volt és én meg 4éves, teljessen értetlen volt nekünk az
egész. Emlékszem a hajó utra és pláne egy kedves fekete tengerészre aki
osztogatta a csokoládét a gyerekeknek és azt gondoltuk hogy majd mi is
csokoládá emeberek leszünk!

Camp Kilmer tábor volt ahol a Nagybátyám jütt értünk haza vinni.  Az
utunkat a Világi Református egyesület segitette.
